Auburn State Theatre Presents
Tom Rigney and Flambeau
From the first notes, the music invites movement—irresistible rhythms drawn from South Louisiana traditions drive the band, while Rigney’s violin sings with passion, grit, and lyrical beauty. One moment the ensemble channels the raw, joyous energy of a Cajun dance hall; the next, it shifts effortlessly into a Blues-infused groove, a fiery Celtic reel, or a haunting ballad or waltz. Rigney’s original compositions reflect decades of musical exploration, combining infectious melodies with a wide emotional range that connects immediately with audiences.
Rigney’s band of all stars simmers and cooks with musical intelligence. Boogie Woogie piano queen Caroline Dahl, guitarists Anthony Paule and Marc Brinitzer, Sam Rocha on bass and Brent Rampone on drums create evocative and powerfully uplifting music, led by that guy in the red boots. Flambeau functions as a true ensemble, with dynamic interplay and tight arrangements that showcase both individual musicianship and collective fire. The band’s sound is tight and polished but never predictable - rooted in rich musical traditions while constantly evolving.
Above all, a Tom Rigney and Flambeau performance is joyful, soulful and memorable - music that honors the past, lives fully in the present, and leaves audiences energized, moved and wanting more.
