for Auburn State Theatre’s First
Día de los Muertos Ofrendas (Altars) Show

Thursday, October 15 – Sunday, October 18, 2026

Auburn State Theatre (AST) welcomes artists and community members to celebrate and honor loved ones who have passed, in the spirit of Día de los Muertos. Ofrendas (Altars) will be built in the Carnegie Library on Thursday, October 15, 2026 between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM and will stay for the duration of the exhibit. The show closes at 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Space is limited so please apply soon.

Participation Details:

  • Each participant will have a 6’X6’ space for their ofrenda. Tables are not provided.
  • Application Deadline: Tuesday, September 15, 2026
  • Location: Carnegie Library, 175 Almond Street, Auburn, CA
  • Setup Date & Hours: Thursday, October 15, 2026 between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM
  • Additional hours for touch-ups are Friday, October 16, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM
  • Participants are responsible for removing their ofrenda on Sunday, October 18, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
  • A $25 refundable deposit is required in order to secure participation and ensure space cleanliness following the event. Deposits will be refunded after clean-up on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

Space Details:
Altars should be completely set up before the event opens to the public. All altars will be located at the Carnegie Library. Space assignments will be made prior to arrival. Each participant will have one 6’X6’ space and all items must fit within the assigned space. Displays must be free-standing, please plan accordingly and bring all supplies needed during setup. All items must be removed from the space following the event on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

Please note the following items are NOT permitted:

  • Open Flame
  • Alcohol
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Only non-perishable food is allowed


The show will be open for public viewing:

  • Friday, October 16 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
  • Saturday, October 17 from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM
  • Sunday, October 18 from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM

 

Admission is free with donations gratefully accepted. Once your participation is confirmed, Auburn State Theatre will reach out to you with additional details.
