Renegade Duo
Their concert programs span several genres and centuries, from Renaissance lute songs to reimagined jazz standards and music by contemporary classical composers. Nimbly navigating different eras and genres, they take care to investigate and highlight stylistic differences in each using the full range and capability of their instruments, including 19th century guitar, lute, tenor banjo, and modern classical guitar.
Based in San Francisco, they have performed for several concert series in the Bay Area and beyond, including Trinity Chamber Concerts in Berkeley, Classical Guitar Series at the Davis Arts Center, the San Francisco’s Red Poppy Art House and the San Francisco War Memorial & Performing Arts Center.
Guitarist Jon Mendle and mezzo soprano Melinda Martinez Becker utilize both historical and modern instruments to perform eclectic programs for guitar, lute, banjo and voice.
