Cinema at the State Presents

Cabaret

Sponsored by Bill Heische

In 1931 Berlin, American cabaret singer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) meets British academic Brian Roberts (Michael York). Despite Brian's confusion over his sexuality, the pair become lovers, but the arrival of the wealthy and decadent playboy Maximilian von Heune (Helmut Griem) complicates matters for them all, as the Nazi Party rises to power around them.

Cabaret was a major awards winner, securing eight Academy Awards (including Best Actress for Liza Minnelli, Best Supporting Actor for Joel Grey, and Best Director for Bob Fosse). It also received numerous Golden Globe and BAFTA wins, recognizing its impact across acting, directing, and technical categories.
